Shawn Barker will bring his internationally touring tribute, “The Man In Black – A Tribute to Johnny Cash,” to Penn’s Peak on Friday, Oct. 23. The performance, which begins at 8 p.m., features a full backing band and covers the spanning eras of Cash’s career.
Barker, who has performed as the “Man In Black” for over two decades, is noted for a baritone voice and mannerisms that mirror the late country icon. The energetic show includes performances of Cash’s most recognizable hits, such as “Folsom Prison Blues,” “I Walk The Line,” “A Boy Named Sue,” and “Ring of Fire.” Barker remains in character throughout the evening to revitalize the spirit of the musical legend.
A native of a working-class suburb of St. Louis, Barker began his musical journey singing in church before serving in the Army. After his service, he worked as a carpenter while teaching himself guitar and modeling his vocal style after legends like Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison. Although he began his professional tribute career portraying Presley, Barker transitioned to portraying Cash after an audition for a Hollywood production made it evident that the role was his true calling.
Tickets for the performance are currently available following their release on April 17. Reserved seating is priced at $22 for regular reserved and $27 for premium reserved. Tickets can be purchased via Ticketmaster or through walk-up sales at the Penn’s Peak Box Office and Roadies Restaurant and Bar. The venue has noted that no phone orders will be accepted.
