Cedar Crest College’s Performing Arts Department will present Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic, a comedy by New York playwright Matt Cox, Feb. 19–22 at the Samuels Theatre in the Tompkins College Center.
Directed by Jarrod Yuskauskas, Puffs offers a humorous twist on the familiar magical-school story, focusing on a group of overlooked students known as the Puffs rather than the famously destined hero. The play follows Wayne Hopkins and his friends through seven years at the school, highlighting themes of friendship, belonging, and self-discovery with sharp comedy and unexpected heart.
“It very much plays into the mythos of a certain series of books about a school of Magic and Magic, yet it turns it on its head in a very wacky, sometimes filthy way,” Yuskauskas said. “In its essence, though, it has a strong impact, and there is unexpected heart to it.”
The production is rated R for strong adult language and content and is recommended for audiences ages 17 and older.
