Cedar Crest College will host a commemorative symposium examining the forensic response to the September 11 terrorist attacks on Wednesday, September 2. The event is organized by the Joni Berner, Esq. ’75 Expert Witness Training Center on the college’s Allentown campus.

The program, titled 9/11 The Forensic Response: A Commemorative Symposium, features members of the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner. Speakers will share firsthand accounts detailing the scientific, logistical, and investigative work conducted following the attacks at the World Trade Center.

Presentations will focus on the initial deployment, victim recovery, and the complex death investigation that followed. Experts will highlight the specific roles of forensic odontology and DNA analysis in establishing victim identities, alongside the cross-agency collaboration required during the operation.

Presenters will also discuss how the identification process remains ongoing more than two decades later. Advances in DNA technology continue to allow forensic professionals to identify additional victims using previously unidentified remains.

The symposium runs from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Alumnae Auditorium at Cedar Crest College, located at 100 College Drive in Allentown. The event is free and open to the public, though organizers encourage attendees to register in advance. Click here to register.
